The Fifteenth Century Conference

calendar13:45 Thursday, 04 September 2025 to 14:00 Saturday, 06 September 2025
The conference, which has met regularly since 1970, brings together established scholars of fifteenth-century studies with colleagues at the start of their academic careers. It seeks to act as a showcase for current research, encourage discussion and explore new directions of enquiry.

The entire conference will take place on Durham’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, which encompasses Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, and Palace Green. The main conference venue is the Sir Thomas Allen Assembly Rooms Theatre, located on North Bailey, with accommodation immediately opposite, at Hatfield College.

On the first evening of the conference, there will be a wine reception co-hosted by Durham’s Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies and The Yorkist History Trust. On the Friday afternoon, there will be visits to view relevant collections at Palace Green Library, to Bishop Cosin's Library and the fifteenth-century Exchequer Building, and to Durham Castle. Friday evening will begin with a performance of 15th-century music by vocal quartet the Dunelm Four, followed by the conference banquet dinner in Durham Castle’s Great Hall.
